Alerts

I can't hear alerts in the car

In LimitAlert, open Settings › How › Play alerts through and choose Car, like a call. Alerts then use the car's hands-free channel, which interrupts the radio briefly the way a phone call does. Use Test alert in the car to check. Bluetooth audio only plays when the car's Bluetooth source is selected.

Why does it ask for the microphone?

LimitAlert never records. iOS only allows sound through the car's hands-free channel, or forced to the iPhone speaker, in the same audio mode as calls, which needs microphone permission. Alerts still play if you decline.

When do alerts play?

Only during a journey. Set how far over the limit to alert and how often to repeat in Settings › When.

Journeys

How do journeys start and end?

A journey starts after about 20 seconds above 10 mph, or with the Start journey button, and ends after 5 minutes parked. Turn on Settings › Journeys › Detect drives in the background (with location set to Always) for journeys to start without opening the app, or use Start with your car to set up a Shortcuts automation for your car's Bluetooth.

Where are my trips stored?

Only on your iPhone. Delete them in the app's Trips screen, or turn trip history off in Settings.

Speed limits

Does it work outside the UK?

No. LimitAlert is made for UK roads and is available on the UK App Store only. Abroad, limits are often missing, so alerts can't be relied on.

Where do the limits come from?

From OpenStreetMap, with HERE filling in roads OpenStreetMap has no limit for. Map data can be wrong or out of date, and temporary or variable motorway limits aren't shown: always follow the road signs.

A limit is wrong

Please email us the road, place and direction. You can also correct it on openstreetmap.org; changes reach the app within a week.

Subscription

What does the subscription include?

Alerts and trip recording need a monthly or yearly subscription, which starts with a free week.

How do I cancel or change my plan?

In LimitAlert: Settings › Subscription › Manage subscription. Or on your iPhone: Settings › your name › Subscriptions. Cancel at least a day before the trial or period ends to avoid being charged.
